Breast Cancer Awareness FD9 Volunteers
During the month of October the Fire District 9 Volunteers held a breast cancer awareness fund raiser. Pink breast cancer awareness t-shirts were sold to the public. Thanks to the generous support of our community we were able to raise $1,400.00. The proceeds were donated to The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to help fight cancer.

New Crew Member FD9
Welcome Janette Beard to the fulltime staff at STFD9. Janette has been a volunteer here for several years and when the opportunity came to become full time, she was the best candidate. Chief Scott Brewer said, "I believe that the citizens are better protected now that we have Janette on staff." Congrats Janette!

Fire Camp 2011
St. Tammany Fire District 9's 2nd Annual Youth Fire Camp was a complete success due to to the tireless efforts of our volunteer organization and our full-time employees. This year we had 50 youth in attendence, topping last years. The Kids were taught basic first-aid skills and participated in activities to familiarize them with the jobs fire department personnel perform as well as the equipment they use to carry out those duties. We had other branches of public service on hand to demonstrate and familiarize the youth with the services they provide to our community. Our guests this year were: Acadian Ambulance Service, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office with their Mobile Command Vehicle, Boat, 4-wheelers, Attack Dogs and Armored SWAT Vehicle. The LA State Police Public Information Office brought their roll over prop out to show the kids the importance of wearing their seat belt. 911 Communications taught the kids the importance of 911 and how to use it. St. Tammany Fire District 3 brought their puppet trailer out to teach the kids the importance of fire safety. Sparky the Fire Dog tagged along to meet and greet the kids. LaSAR Dog Team demonstrated how they use their dogs to find lost people. FD9 appreciates the hard work of these agencies for making this a memorable experience for the children of Fire District 9. On Friday night we held the graduation ceremony where the children were awarded certificates of completion and also demonstrated to their parents some of the skills they learned at camp. Following the ceremony we served smoked brisket, smoked pork, beans, potatoe salad and all kind of deserts. To end the night we had a bonfire which everyone enjoyed. Planning of next years camp is already underway, this program will be bigger and better next year. If you have any comments or suggestions please contact us we value your input.
